The new Galway City 50k, which will host the 2010 World 50km Trophy Final, has been accepted as a member of the Association of International Marathons & Distance Races (AIMS). The race will also be an IAU-labelled event.
The Galway City 50k will be staged on 29 August 2010 and is part of the new Galway City Marathon running festival weekend. The marathon event will involve two loops of the City while 50k participants will run through the marathon finish line and then continue onto a short circuit through the city centre streets. Twenty male and twenty female athletes will qualify from a series of 50km races around the globe to represent their countries in this World Trophy Final.
The course was measured and certified earlier this month and full details will be contained on the race website - www.galwaycitymarathon.com - which will be 'live' during the first week of March. The race will also double as the inaugural Irish 50km Championships and is an open competition in which anyone can take part .
